The top judicial has said reservation should not be
entertained for higher studies. The Supreme
Court urged the central government to take necessary steps to abolish
reservation in higher education institutions. It has opined that reservation in
super speciality courses should be eradicated for general national interest. A
bench of Justices Dipak Mishra and P C Pant observed that the reservation often
defeat merit though Supreme Court has been reminding the Central and State
Governments several times that they must make merit the primary criteria. The country needs improvement in higher
education. So reservation in higher education should be done away with. It fell
in with the two judgments in 1988.
