Pathankot:-
This municipal city is the meeting point of the three northern states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir Pathankot is the 9th most populous city of Punjab. Pathankot is situated in the foothills of Kangra and Dalhousie.River Chakki is flowing closely.
The Attack:
The Indian Air Force base at Pathankot in the state of Punjab was attacked by some terrorists.There are 12 entry points into the base.The attack happened when the whole world was sleeping after the celebration for the new year,2016 at about 3.30 a.m. on 2nd January. The number of the terrorists is still unknown.Local police have been alarming the local people and forbidding to come out of their own homes. The assailants could not enter into the technical areas of the base.The terrorists were in the area which families and civilians live. An NIA team have reached Pathankot. The sound of three grenade blasts was heard inside airbase. Force heard firing from within the airbase again.
Heavily armed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists attacked in this terrorist attack. This terrorist organization had earlier attacked parliament on 13th December in 2001 in Delhi.
Deaths and Injuries:-
Fateh Sing(captain), Kundan Sing from Indian Air Force have been killed in this terror attack. Another army has not been recognized yet. Three jawans lost their lives of whom one was Garud commando and two were DSC personnel. Five terrorists were killed. Four had been killed earlier. The fifth was killed when the daylight did diminish.

High-Level Meetings:-
High-level meetings have been going on at South Block again and again. Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar was given detailed of the incident by IAF chief Arup Raha, Navy Chief Robin Dhowan and BSF chief at South Block. NSA Ajit Doval also gave information.
Pak Connection:-
The terrorists had called to their handlers in Vawalpur of Pakistan. One terrorist had called to his mother through the mobile snatched from SP Salwinder Sing.

SP Salwinder Sing Waylaid:-
SP Salwinder along with his two companions Rajesh Verma and Madan Gopal. Rajesh Verma is his friend. Madan Gopal is the cook of Rajesh Verma.They were travelling in an SUV. They were ambushed by a gang of five on Pathankot-Jammu road. They were beaten, assailed and robbed. Later the car was seen in a village in the state of Himachal Pradesh.
Toyota Innova, a taxi, was seen in an area nearby where its driver Ikagar Sing was found dead.
This event, according to some sources, is correlated with the Air Base attack.
