Details of 4th Phase Assembly Election of 2016 in West Bengal


There were 49 candidates for whom voters exercised their franchises. 16 were from Howrah and 33 were from Uttar 24 Parganas. 1.08 crore voters were to cast their votes at about 12500 polling stations. 90,000 security personnel were deployed to assure free and fare election. There were five observers, all of IAS rank, all around two districts in Howrah and North 24 Parganas.

Events of 4th Phase:-

Camp office of CPIM at Raghunathpur was destroyed. Complaint of rigging has been lodged for the polling booth no 118 in Bally constituency. There was a debate between TMC candidate Baishali Dalmiya and CPIM ex MLA Kanika. Rigging in presence of Purnendu Basu at Shantimoy Nagar primary school in Rajarhat Gopalpur constituency has been telecast on ABP Ananda. Salua primary school, in the constituency of Rajarhat Newtown, an extra of 20 votes was cast. Roopa Ganguly complained against partiality of a presiding officer. She was also seen to have quarrelled against a TMC supporter. Laxmi Ratan Shukla , a TMC candidate lodged an FIR against Roopa Ganguli for threatening a presiding officer. Arunabha Ghosh,  an alliance candidate from Congress, lodged a complaint against a TMC councillor for having threatened a polling agent in CB block area of Salt Lake. Central force broke camp office of TMC in Madhyamgram. Tanmoy Bhattacharya, a CPIM heavyweight candidate, was attacked. He lodged complaint.

Reaction of Surya Kanta Mishra:-

The opposition leader Surja Kanta Mishra asked Chief Minister to take action against miscreants. He said that even a little child was not relieved. He affirmed that the duties of central force was better than the previous phases.He says this vote is between the ruling party and people. 4173 complaints have been submitted in the 4th phase. A presiding officer was dropped.
